This was taken at Six Flags’ Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo, CA in 2004. Some children were huddled in the corner, amazed at how close they were to this playful walrus.

Cat dive

I took this photo of Odin, a famous rare white Bengal tiger, at Six Flags’ Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo, CA in 2004. The trainers were throwing meat into a small pool to demonstrate Odin’s diving ability and he looked right into my camera. The scowl on his face is not meant to be fierce, it’s because of how he scrunches up his nose to keep water out.

This California sea lion, named Razerback, was taken from a Santa Cruz beach by The Marine Mammal Center because he was exhibiting unusual behavior and would not return to the water. After an examination, Razerback was determined healthy and released.

This bee was hard at work. The pollen he had gathered reminded me of a hand muff (I envision the extravagant fur ones that women used in the “old days”).

This was captured on one of my first trips to Pike Place Market. I’ve been back many times since, but this is still one of my favorite photos involving a vendor and customer. I love the bright colors and the multitasking mother, with her son in one arm and prospective goods in the other.

The moisture on these chocolate chips makes my mouth water. This cannoli was delicious, of course!

The purple of this petal stood out against a backdrop of greens and browns. I also love the star shape made by the five stamens each pointing out in a different direction.
